This is Alan, he's going to be my OC for , it's probably better to read everything else before reading this. I didn't draw his legs so I guess he'll have to walk on those stubs for now.

Age: 112 (but he's an elvy-type and it's not that old for them)

Physical Description: Average height, long-sighted, not very intimidating.

Chosen by: Lady Ink (I guess she thought he might be useful and sent him there :/ )

Gift description: A construct, pictured above, which is the alchemical symbol for gold. (and the Latin name for gold is Aurum)

Personality: Not good but not evil, he cares way more about himself and his own goals than he ever will for other people. He won't go out of his way to help anyone unless it will give him some sort of advantage but neither will he do bad stuff for the same reasons. He tries to be polite but sometimes comes off as being rude and he's a bit too serious though he might be getting a mild infection of silliness from Eremy and Silvis. His default emotion is a union of bored and unimpressed and he's out of practice with feeling much of anything else outside of annoyance. As a result it might be difficult to shock him/freak him out/make him laugh/etc

History: He's half elve, half something else and his mother died before anybody could ask her about the “something else”. His people are kinda bigots and his whatever-that-colour-is hair stands out among the black and brown. That and his mixed bloodline meant he was considered inferior and as such he had a crap childhood. When he was in his 30s he got tired of being treated like that and tried to leave but they didn't want him “causing trouble out there” and brought him back. They put him to work in the Library to give him something to do and that's where he's been until he was spirited away to the Book of Stories.

Very recently Silvis Aurumvite was placed in his care, she is the 23 year old daughter of Highlord Osong Aurumvite and is still thought of as a child. The Library can be a dangerous place from all the magic it contains as well as its almost labyrinthine nature and Alan is considered as one of the better librarians. Naturally he'll be in a lot of trouble if anything were to happen to her which is problematic as she was sent in to the Book of Stories too and I doubt finding her will be a simple matter in all the chaos.

Abilities: The Library contains books on almost every topic you can think of and occasionally random crap summons itself out of the books. A librarian's duty is to keep things orderly so Alan's skills mainly come from that.
That means he has:
an encyclopedic knowledge of sealing spells.
a faint grasp on weather magic from getting rid of rain clouds in the Meteorology Dept.
knowledge of some basic unimpressive magic.
knowledge of random stuff he randomly came across but has probably forgotten anything useful by now.
a very unreliable grasp of various languages.

In addition he has great reflexes, good aim, is not easily taken unaware, is not a good fighter but can fight back and can use his library-issue short sword thing (which by that I mean he won't immediately drop it). Also he can cook bacon without burning it
