I'm doing some work experience where I go into this secondary school to help teach maths. The class is full of 12 year olds and no, none of them are special needs. Some are quite bright but others are just... agh, how can you not be able to add one? I know you know how to count, I saw you do it!

Well, a good number of them are being taught not to think. They've been indoctrinated to believe that no matter how well they do in school, the life ahead of them will still suck. Most children today have access to the internet at their schools. They get exposed to all kinds of things there - good and bad. They can find out how badly the education systems of the world are failing them (not just in the USA.)

True to a degree but they have to start thinking for themselves at some point. There are plenty in that class who already do.
